Here’s a bit from my survey paper. Yes. I had to write a paper for survey class. I know, it sucks.
I’ve always known I wanted to be a chemical engineer, I like chemistry class, math, and I like to solve problems. However, I never really thought about what kind of specific job I would want. After doing some research, I decided I don’t want to be working in a laboratory, or in a factory, or with medicine. So what was left? Research and development. This field basically means making products better. More specifically, research and development engineers invent, reapply, develop and deliver breakthrough products, process raw materials, and packaging technologies that change the consumer market. This could be done in several ways, like by talking to consumers, creating faster processing time, create a brand new product, or making packaging more efficient. The specific area I would like to work in would be talking to consumers.
Talking to consumers is more specifically called a product development engineer. This job requires talking to consumers and translating their needs into effective product designs. This would create innovated strategies that are consumer driven and would be done by using quantitative and qualitative modeling tools to define consumers’ needs.
This is the ideal job for me because I love helping people and doing things that make sense. When I’m talking to people about their wants, desires, and needs, I’m going to make sure there is a product for them (within limits) and then after that I’ll be creating a product based on that. Any job’s purpose is creating something for the consumer, but this is a “hands-on” experience. I will actually see what the consumer wants, not my boss coming to me telling me we need a new product; it’s me actually seeing that people want a product like that on the market. Also when creating a product, it isn’t blind, I can use the ideas of the consumers and just make it real. Not only would I make products that one consumer wants, but I would use charts and graphs to summarize what the whole population wants.
Hey Maggie I remember taking a survey class when I was a freshman. A part of me thinks that class was pointless, but some of the information giving in survey class was beneficial.
ReplyDeleteThat sucks you had to write a paper for your survey class! I guess what your requirements were depended on your major. It would be pointless for me to write a paper on being undecided!
ReplyDeleteMy survey class was honestly so pointless last year! And we were done with the class like half way through the first quarter.
ReplyDeleteThe information in the survey class are always beneficial. You will know how to calculate GPA, the resource of campus etc. Just try to enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThat survey class I took last quarter was really pointless. I honestly didn't learn a thing from it.
