Blog 43
I’m really glad this is a ‘blog about anything’ they’re my favorite, although it’s hard to think of a topic sometimes.
So I’ve been thinking about long distance relationships lately. I’m not in one or anything, but two of my friends were dating for 2.5 years, and just broke up. And for a relationship that started in high school, that’s pretty long. The girl was a freshman and the boy was a junior. When he graduated he went to Notre Dame, and she stayed in Mason (near Cincinnati). It was pretty clear they were going to break up, just a matter of time. I realize this is pretty pessimistic though. Anyway, what I can never understand about long distance relationships is why some people stay in them. I think there are two different types. The ones where it’s clear that the couple will be back in the same location. An example would be like a summer away at camp, or a semester abroad. These would still be difficult, but it’s doable and definitely worth a shot. The other scenario is when there seems to be no shot of a future where they will be together again. An example is my friends where they’re going to go to different colleges and it becomes the question of how long will they put up with this? At some point, someone is going to need to make a sacrifice for the other one, and locate near them, but that’s a pretty big leap for a high school relationship in my opinion.

  1. I agree with you completely. High School to college is a huge leap. I know that there are exceptions, but most people that enter college in a long distance relationship, usually break up. Maybe it is worth a shot, but I think it is something a person has to prepare themselves for if they enter college with a boyfriend or girlfriend.
