What makes people happy?
Most studies about people’s moods are focused on sadness verses happiness. More commonly people are focused on the weaknesses of people compared to the strengths. More recent studies though are trying to change the view on the subject, trying to discover what makes people happy. The happiest people spend the least amount of time alone and always strive for personal growth. They try to connect with other people and judge themselves compared to them and not to other people. Holidays bring this out the most in people. It is easy to recognize the people that don’t feel connected and don’t have a place for family and are missing someone. Some people can lose their job and still be happy, while others are always miserable all year long. It is believed that mood is affected by genetics only fifty percent. Everyone has a ‘set-happiness’ just like set weight. People can try to change, but changing in large leaps isn’t likely. Life satisfaction comes when people are distracted from themselves and lose track of time and where they are, it is when they go with the flow.
The author of this article is describing that people range in happiness and some of it is in our control. There are many ways to judge happiness and ways to change it. For Angel, life satisfaction relates closely to him with Buffy. He wouldn’t be able to just “go with the flow” if he knew Buffy was out there fighting by herself.
